I still like this simple look.

I we need to ensure that the downsizer name is buried on the consciousness of anyone who clicks onto the page.

I don't think the logo there does that, perhaps we need to keep the downsizer banner together with the logo on the front page, and use the logo elsewhere?

I'd like to emphasise the logo more in the header, I am not too sure how though

I have been looking again at Dougals mock up with its "big intro" and I have decided I cannot see it working well, as you need to see more that 300 pixels down the page before hitting real content. I think this would badly effect us.

We could replace the google ad, with more logo text, but I would argue against that. The site does poorly on google according to my research, and that is because the "ads" are placed badly.

By placing the ad in the header, we might make more hosting options affordable.

I think the above layout, especially if we could tweak a but more identity into it, is a space efficient, ergonomic, and recognises the need for the advert revenue.

As an aside, with the menu bit across the top, almost all of the "Main Menu" could be scrapped.

I said this somewhere else. I like the new logo, but I think the site needs to say DOWNSIZER across the top of the front page.

I think it would be better as part of the toolbar with the home/search etc so it was more central

May be negative, but I agree. Unless the corners are made more visually dominant then whatever appears in the middle will appear to be the brand.

Bear in mind that you are seeing a "public service ad" in the image.

The actual ad would be two columns of text like the current ad format. So would be a lot less "logo" like.

Nah, sorry; still don't like it. It needs something solid (and branded) in the middle - it is a header, when all said and done.

I still think the gap in the menu bar at the top is calling to be filled with the small name icon
