Now usually I'd only offer packaging (eg a bag) to a customer if they actually ask for it, but if I do get my tradestand at Wonderwool I'll be mostly be trading in hats and skeins of wool, and I'm going to need to consider appropriate packaging options. So, just how do I bag up a pointy hat for the customer who doesnt want to wear it home? Bit big to wrap in a sheet of brown paper, don't think bags come that large. A binbag would look a bit passe, any ideas?

Not sure they would accomodate the brim, plus whilst I want to be as eco-aware as possible, I want people to feel they've bought something wonderful and a potato sack just might possibly not convey that! Then again...

I think I might be pragmatic and go for a carrier bag but a posh one with some chance of re-usability. I don't think you can always afford to moralise your trade out of existance.

Roughly what dimensions is a pointy hat? And are they foldable?

About a foot and a half across the brim and the same tall, so a bit hard to fold. I do fold em for postage but if someone is buying in person its better to leave them uncrumpled

Sally - we can get paper bags with handles from one of our supplers - usually about 3 day delivery from order. Not sure on price, but I can ring the shop and get them to check if you're interested?

Could you use thin card/thick paper to make a cylindrical box for them? Perhaps with a cord handle.
