While having my morning shave today, I found myself pondering what the most environmentally responsible method of shaving is? Wet shave or electric? Disposable razor or refillable? And what about the associated products such as shaving foam/soap and moisturiser/aftershave?

Any thoughts???

Probably a cut-throat and soap, but that's a step too far for me, so I use a refillable.

I have given up trying to use a razor and now use a set of industrial hedgetrimmers instead

Shaving? That's for wusses, I just give mine a trim every whenever the missus threatens to kick me out.

Yes, me too up until last week, when I decided that £10 for 8 refills seemed as little steep. I bought a pack of 10 disposables instead for 86p to see what they're like and they're not bad, but I couldn't help but feel a little guilty!!!

When I get some spare time I would like to track down a decent cut throat razor and learn to use it. Preferably when my OH is not around as when she bumps into me when I'm using a cut throat the consequences may be a little more serious than when I have a pint in my hand.

This has cropped up here before with some useful tips: https://forum.downsizer.net/about1353.html&highlight=shaving

Never too sure when to post links to old topics but I thought there was some useful comments. I tend to use the disposable heads as well at the moment.

I am back on boots disposables ones that come with a couple of blades. More of an economic thing than anything else, as the boots ones are both cheap and stay sharp for a fair time.
Trouble with anything like this, they are made to keep you buying

Perhaps it's time to have another downsizer challenge where we all try a cut throat and home made shaving oil.

After all I think we have enough members to spare a few.

This has cropped up here before ...

And in the very last post on that thread I pointed out that there is (well, was) such a thing as a stroppable (resharpenable) safety razor. A half-way house between the cut-throat and safety razors with disposable blades. They were made by a company called "Rolls Razor" and, I believe, might be just about collectable (maybe even useable...)
See for example on eBay (this one has spare blades!)

But personally, I'm keeping my beard for now...

Not sure where to get a cut throat razor from. I don't fancy getting on from e-bay I'm afraid. I'll go over the old posts and try and track one down but if anyone knows of a reasonable one please post away.

I've just looked at some of the google adds and saw one for £ 185.00 and there's quite a few for £100ish.
