I've been using brown cardboard tags - you know the type with a bit of string on - look like luggage labels. However, I think I want something a bit more professional looking - maybe a little square folded booklet type thing that I can tie onto the handbags and stuff. I think I'm going to venture more into bag as people are willing to spend more on bags as opposed to household stuff.

This is one I made a couple of days ago

The photo really doesn't do it justice. It's deep purple with machine embroidery and I need to charge £65 for it (and others like it) For that price I think the presentation needs to be spot on and luggae labels don't quite do it.

Where do I start? I don't even know what they're called

See if you can get brown coloured sticky labels. print onto them with your printer and then stick them onto ordinary brown luggage labels. Then tie to the produce. Cheap, simple. Or get a printer to print yousome tags on heavyweight paper then hole punch a hole and away you go.

Boisdevie - That's what I've been doing but it doesn't really look that professional. I think I need something a bit less 'homegrown'. The market I'm aiming at is definitely one that will value sustainable practices etc but they're the ones with a bit more dosh. If I'm asking £65 - £70 for a handbag I think I need it to be presented right.

The bag is £65 + £2 P&P

That's if it doesn't make it into my wardrobe, I'm a bit in love with it

Have you had a look around at digital print services online? There are various services that allow you to upload your own images and then print them for you. Something like this from visaprint, for example - they allow you do small quantities. Or you could get large-ish business cards printed up? These guys do ours and they are really, really fab - the colours are bright and they are shiny and very heavy card so it is difficult to bend them. I just send them a .pdf. But not folded though.

To give you an idea of what it might cost to get something professionally printed, I have taken the liberty of making a no-names-mentioned enquiry of the printers I use in North Wales. No reply as yet, but I'll post some numbers here when they come back.

If you have the right software tools, preparing your own marketing / product materials for commercial press isn't difficult; just has to be done in a way mindful of certain technical details. Plenty of free advice available here no doubt!

the bag is beautiful you could chose some nice card and print on and cut out your own labels using the pc or maybe have a rubber stamp made

Thanks Andrew that would be good Thanks 2 steps - I'm rather fond of it myself I've been doing all my own stationery stuff - I have the technology - but I want to start buying it in as it were. a) It takes up valuable making time and b) it always looks handmade no matter how proficient you are.

Home grown stationery need not look so - a decent inkjet printer, decent inkjet paper, and an attractive layout, can look very professional. I print my own letter headings & invoices because I only need a few, occasionally.

Next started doing fabric labels when I worked there. Could you get some printed? They look quite earthy if you do them right. (if you know what I mean)
