Well my spinach is done Whizzed it down to powder in the processor and it gave me 1/3 rd of an 8oz jar quite shocked really as the dehydrator was stuffed full! Will prove very handy though for hiding in stuff for the boys I'm off to cut down some more to see if I can fill a jar!!

Well the bananas still have a long way to go, they are shrinking slowly and so far tasting a little nicer with each sample

WOOHOO! not only have i just ordered my dehydrator but i found a £5 discount voucher for first time customers! if anyone is interested click on this link

https://www.cantbarsed.com/discount-vouchers-n9.htm#t

the tchibo link is at the top, it says it's a £3 pound voucher but when you click on the link it brings up the tchibo page and a pop up window (disable your pop up blocker) the pop up window gives you £5 off and you can use it then or save it for later. my grand total including delivery was £23.94!!!

that's a great idea! i think i'll try that with spinach as well but i'm also going to do it with carrots and beetroot as i could add a bit of the powder to all the ice lollies i'm making and she'd never know the difference

thanks jema...

i don't wanna wait that long

but, i guess that gives me time to get my amazon order which includes the newer 'foods for free' with the photos in it, a book on how to sew, and yes, a dehyrdator recipe book!!!

i've been saving up amazon vouchers that i get for doing tedious surveys online and i've picked this lot out (actually i picked it out BEFORE i knew about this dehydrator, how serendipitous is that?!) guess i'd better get looking for a second hand sewing machine now, maybe i'll ask for one on freecycle!

even more of a bargain then Buttery well done!! Have a shimmy round Ebay also for a sewing machine..if you do a local search you'd be surprised the bargains you can pick up on heavy stuff like that as you might be the only person bidding I have 3 machines 2 of which came from ebay and were bargains The third was just totally jammy Brand new Quilters companion for £200 (retail price £599!!!) My advice if you are just learning is get an older machine (they were harder wearing mostly made from metal a few years ago..)An old Singer or Jones (Brother) would be ideal

Dried Banana got a very big thumbs down here in the end but this was starting from a point of no one liking fresh Bananas

thanks for the advice about ebay deedee! i will have quite a lot of money in my paypal account soon so i'll have some money to play with

i'm quite happy with the quality of brother products (and singer is a good make too) so i'll especially keep a look out for those! i never thought to search by location

jema, did your bananas taste like cardboard in the end? if anyone knows a way around this i'd appreciate it. i do some price checking each week at a morrisons store (for another company) so each monday when i finish i have a look around the store for their reduced items. they always have loads of bananas so until i can get some winemaking supplies i'd like to make banana chips with them. i just bought 2 bags yesterday (got them with vouchers for another online survey) they are a big fav snack around here. maybe my book i'm going to order will have more details.

i can't wait to start making jerky again. mmmmmmmm and i'm definately going to have a go at making fruit leathers!

we're in a massive push now to stop eating junk foods. we're now only eating it on the weekends so i'm doing the best i can to find 'other' alternatives that aren't quiet so unhealthy, thus the ice lolly thing. i've been buying some really nice dried fruit lately but it's very expensive, better to making my own with bargain fruit, it's not like it doesn't keep for a bit then!

A little, but the intensive sweet banana flavour was the killer, and yes I do expect people to ask exactly what was I expecting

Can you dry tomatoes with these things?

Just thinking about dealing with a glut of tomatoes this summer (I hope), and sundried tomatoes are very expensive,

Peter.
