ummm sliced i would be going for layered, that is a pie topping or dauphinoise or maybe game chips rather than roasties roasties need to be in lumps of whatever type or shape or size or style

You can hasselback anything but whether it's worth it or not is another matter

You slice repeatedly almost all the way through, so your spud sort of looks like a sliced loaf of bread but with the bottom sections still joined together. Salt and oil and roast, and the slices open up and fan out so you get lots of crispy edges.

I knew hasselback but I thought I was baking a joke about whether or not you could do it to parsnips after seeing dpack's words, some of which I could make sense. But apparently I proved my own joking point by not knowing which neeps were neeps!

I sometimes find that the American English term is an older one. I usually check in Jane Austin novels.
