Earthquake! Happened about 10:23 a.m. here in Hunterdon County, NJ. Grumbling, rumbling for a short while. Himself says he felt the floor trembling. Nothing fell, doors, didn't move. One cat ran from my study, other cat kept sleeping on a chair. Centered near Whitehouse Station, about 2 miles deep (Ramapo fault, probably) and 4.7 intensity.

When I went to the IGA in town about an hour later of course we chatted about it. Was told that the whole store (it's small) shook and bottles on shelves clinked together but nothing fell.

Now we wait for the (partial) eclipse on Monday. What exciting times we are living in!

No notice of it up here, but we're still digging out from yesterday's dump of snow. I got more than 18" and it was all wet and heavy.

Exciting times indeed!

Slightly disturbing, but glad there was no damage. We had one here in about 1963 in the middle of the night. The bed shook, which woke me up and rather frightened me. One boy at school told us a picture in his house fell off the wall, but no damage here really. Can't remember how strong it was, but the epicentre was about 40-50 miles from us.

gulp, rather disturbing when the earth moves, hope that was "the big one" for your area and it will be quiet again having adjusted itself

a chum was in kobe when some of it fell over, he slept through it(good building) and emerged to discover chaos and wreckage rather than breakfast ramen

The are apparently having a few fairly strong (4) aftershocks, interesting reading the NZ herald report of some Kiwis in NY, who knew what it was from experience as opposed to locals who didn't.
Natural really as Aotearoa constantly wibbles and people are taught and constantly reminded what to do, as we found there.

It would be interesting to compare the geology with who felt it or not

The earth is apparently quivering frequently and all over. Here's a link to a very good US Geological Survey site where you can peruse what's going on:

I think they have something for volcanoes but don't know about solar. Perhaps search on NASA?

I meant are these different happenings connected...or just a coincidence?
