i might have mentioned a £10 hillbilly zither, with another £10's worth of three out of four mandolin strings and the use of a feather and screwdriver
lush instrument, if it breaks i will get another
i have not explored it enough, a little would hold the room
ps it is in G at the mo, D or dropped D would work

3 strings on a light bit of hollow tree has appeal for a percussionist with mobility issues
yam stage custom or a couple of djembe is rather less convenient to set up or play
and this does not shake plates from tables several houses away
Sounds interesting. Any chance of a picture as not familiar with it. I am friends with someone on FB who makes historic string instruments. Some of them are very complicated, so can see why modern ones evolved.
