Finally the weather was right.
Took a couple of hours a bucket at a time, but probably no more than about 15 mins between layers.
Will give it 48 hours before fill the other side to avoid giving the rebar an issue.
9 bits of rebar used so far. I do not think this is going anywhere.

if it is deep and into a relatively stable ground it will be a point of stability

It's over 1m deep and I figure the ground as stable. A point of stability is the aim. Maybe 300kg in there so far.

Some tidal flooding today. It does go higher.

that is a bit damp up to the lowest level

i have a rather spiffing willow even if it has developed a stoop due to the mass of fruit on the bramble it is a cutting from a huge and venerable specimen

yours if you want it, trimmed shorter and bare root cleaned would post ok
or the ds courier network might be able to do the logistics with less pruning

having seen what it looks like today trying to use it as a "terrace" or patio deck looks unwise

That's a fabulous offer

We figure it would work great to the left of the sleepers in the picture. e.g. up top rather than down bottom.

If we put it up top the only view it obscures is a pylon.

So yes please

It is notable that the flooding and I know it can go higher did not actually get into the pit and looked to be a couple of feet below the oak, maybe a bit less than that.

ok, when dormant would be best

it has good roots even if the top part might need trimming but it should form a good coppice stand from that.

tis maybe about 6 or 7 yrs old and pot grown so bare root or in the pot might work, iirc bare root is best so long as the logistics are tidy

i hope there are no drains or services near that patch.
it is unlikely to seek water uphill from a handy swamp but worth a mention:lol:

it does look like a good home for it, and they are quite good at stabilizing things

I don't know if the tidal flooding holds back the river, but even if that is fresh water, I wouldn't think that oak tree would be as large and healthy as that if its roots were waterlogged for any length of time. Suggests to me that the water level doesn't get to its roots for long or too often.

there are some of similar size and health on the ings, some winters they have a few months in a lake that is about 4 m deep where they are, before the levee was built they were probably in a meter or so for similar time scales
they have a ditch on one side that is usually full of water and the flat bit landward is often a puddle
i recon they are around 150 yrs old and there are only a few missing in a pretty long line of maybe a hundred to start with

it has surprised me over 15 yrs or so that they seem to thrive on it, they share a space with willow in places and that seems to work

the high tide marks in the trees is a bit odd to me as i am a hillbilly rather than a swamprat:lol:

Been looking at the mess below again today and thinking that the easiest option if I just want things "tidy" is to build a lower deck with a bit of retaining wall. A lower deck than the one that was there.

Meanwhile up top I think I will preattach a couple of post holder to a couple of dense block and cement them in place on the concrete.
