I've made a number of lamps recently (leds behind sumblimation prints, leds embedded into picture frames and just simple standard lamps) Mrs JB wants to try a variation on this. She wants a table lamp where the upright is a natural branch with the bark still attached.
Does anyone out there know what I could do to treat fresh wood so that it will securely keep the bark on it?
linseed oil by capillary action from the ends and faces might work on a dry but still barked bit, it would lose the natural look if you go for the faces
find a bit that is suitable and pre weathered? just dry it a bit and do the engineering stuff?
She did not go into details, but big enough that the bark could provide some interesting texture, small enough that it looks like it should hold a light and not be the main support in a cruck house.
I suggested that something more like spalted roots would be better as they would not have bark to lose but she seems set on the idea of the texture of the bark.
