Yes, I was looking round the wood yesterday and the blackberries there seem to have some good flowers on. There have been some wild raspberries in flower there for a week or two and some wild strawberries in flower, but I don't usually get any of those as the small mammals get them first. Lots of mast on some of the beech trees too.
in good years, whatever they are, bigboys do seem to do well outside on the wall corner
last year the 2 types of toms and shiny walls with the bramble in first year trim did ok, now it is too dark in that corner with an industrial amount of blackberries looming over it
thinking of which, tis a good bramble year, not just due to the pruning phase but a good year for these ones
the wild ones are not so prolific, not a surprise considering the hedge's soil, hydrology and guano input
Does seem to be a good year. Husband said the one by the entrance to the woods was covered in red admiral butterflies yesterday with several males fighting.
