Do google ad's make you money if someone clicks onto them from this site or do they have to sell something after being clicked onto from this site?

It is the click alone that makes the money. Ranges from about 4c a click upwards.

Well in that case I think I will simply go for it

Front page may look a little messy whislt I do the tidying up, but I think it will be btter than we have.

Not looking bad. The cake article has vanished from the front page though.

fitting google ads in is a bane of my life We ended up with them at the bottom of the page on the front page simply because they had to go somewhere. I guess I should think about removing them.

The new front page is better in the respect that you have access to more articles on the front page now although I just wonder if the pictures are just a little bit too small to have any use.

I am sure I have seen a site with a slightly similar format somewhere

It does bear a slight similarity now you mention it, although the inspiration for the redesign came from another totally different site. Hopefully by the time it's finished they'll be very different to each other.

Believe it or not, whilst I can now see what you mean, it came from this thread:

Ours is still due for a bit of a revamp now that we have too many articles. Difficult to come up with a workable alternative especially (as we both do) if you have a site that people like. If it ain't broke don't fix it springs to mind regarding my site.

I did not like the look of the site that you have been inspired from, too much on the page it looks too 'busy'. But I do think that having two columns either side with links and a 'main' bit in the middle works pretty well (i think).

To let you into a secret I was actualy inspired by this site https://gurn.net/

Er, fair point. Just the idea to have a three column layout I meant, with the main articles in the middle. As I was totally new to any kind of webstuff (not even much of a surfer) when the site was first set up there were some god awful layouts untill the present one was decided on.
