Is there any reason why chickens and rabbits can't share the same space? I don't actually mean at the same time, but I'm thinking of running the chickens through after the rabbits as the rabbits are so incredibly wasteful with their dried food & tend to throw it around rather than eat it.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't?

my dad is considering doing the same thing as he's currently building a chicken shed. I'd like to hear others' opinions too :)

Careful, the rabbit may go feral and kill & eat the chickens.

A house down the road from us has a large chicken run and I have seen rabbits in there at the same time. Not sure if the rabbits were escapees or not though.

Our local park has a pets corner with rescue rabbits and chickens penned together, one rabbit and one chicken per run.

I was also thinking about this for edible bunnies...

I have heard of rabbits catching cocciodosis from chickens. The chickens have to have it first, of course.......

my rabbit did rude things to the hens when he lived with them they stood for him like they would a cock though! dirty birds...

if the rabbits are chucking food about, feed less. if they have enough grass they can live on that alone...mine do anyway. I dont feed anything except grass or hay and my oldest is nearly 7 now and has reared numerous litters (although i did give her extra veg and oats when she was rearing) - very healthy teeth!

I had them in the same space for a short time some years ago with no problems---at the minute the bunnies are in their runs and the chickens are free range but when we move them the chickens are straight in for any bits of dry bunny food left.
p.s. Also had a rabbit once that "got away" and burrowed a nest under a fixed chicken house and raised a family---the garden was totally securely fenced and the lived there free 'til I sorted them---they used to come and look at the chickens who were in a run then
