My neighbour has bees living in their wall. They asked me what to do with them but unfortunately I can't see any way to save them and suspect the only answer is to kill them. It's a lathe and plaster wall under kent peg and tile.

Does anyone else have a better idea on how to deal with them and if not has anyone got a suggestion on how to do the deed? Can't really use petrol as they are right next to the flues for the aga and the heating.

Hope someone can help!

Leave them where they are. They're probably masonry bees, which live happily in walls, and cause no problems. They live in ours too, we're very fond of them Great pollinators!

If they are mason or another species of bumble bee then they should indeed leave them alone.
They will vacate in the autumn anyway so the problem will be sorted then.
If they are honey bees then killing the colony could make the problem worse as once the bees are dead the honey stores will draw moisture from the atmosphere & ferment which can cause a lot of damp & mould problems.
So if killing you really need to open the wall & remove the comb as well & if doing this it would be better to take the bees live.
Unfortunately there aren't many beekeepers or pest control companies who will do this.

Just walked up there to tell them and they were so gutted they got the gin out. LOL. Led me astray too they did... I am a bit squiffy now... has to be said...
