The leaves on the top one look like laurel - cherry laurel? I don't imagine they are edible - I would leave those well alone.

I would agree with Will and Judith and definitely not eat the laurel either. I think you are supposed to take care with the leaves (eg not burn them, and be careful if you shred them because of the spray ).

The middle pic is really nice 2steps, Tahir might be after that for his tree article

Top is indeed cherry laurel or such like. Really toxic.

Middle is hawthorn, and bottom is a slightly out of focus rose.

Nice pics.

Hawthorn is edible, and some people live a jelly made from it. You can use it for wine too.

Rose makes the second best syrup known to humanity

There's an email button in every post I make, clicking on it should do the trick. Rosehips would be good (anything else really)

You can make a jelly with it, or cook it down and strain it, adding the pulp to a hedgerow jam or jelly, or you can make wine with them. You can suck/nibble the flesh off the berries, but there's quite a stone in there, and there's not a lot to the berries when raw. They're not desperately special when cooked either.

But that said, there's a hell of a lot of them; some people speak very highly of hawthorn berry wine.
