Could the difference in price be a different grade of sheet?

Loyalty is rewarded with higher profits for the vendor not better deals for the buyer.

Shop around each and every time.

I'll have to and as for the company making money? They aren't going to make money for long if they are losing long standing customers. Inspiteof the position of monopoly they hold, they're losing quite a few customers in the area through their policies. I already buy all my smaller items from away and still save a lot of money even though I have to pay carriage. I also know of a number of farmers who have started doing the same, who for example buy big loads of fertilizers from out of the area merchants and save money on identical products.

I'm going to make enquiries about alternative sources for the goods that I need and will be considering whether or not to close my account. I'd rather pay a little more and know that what I'm paying is the best price that the vendor can offer.

We found our local builder's suppliers C L Jones very competitive.
And they often deliver for free if we're on their day's route.

I think you have a CL in Nefyn don't you Bodger?

ETA - Mynytho, just checked.

Independents (such as www.rosewoodfarms.co.uk ) often are cheaper, the big names are good at giving the impression they are competitive.

The hardest part of this game is to keep reminding people that you're there

It's not just Wynnstays. We have long had an account with Travis Perkins but still have to point out that better prices can sometimes be had elsewhere.

Trouble with most of the big suppliers now is that they don't look at you as an individual, just an account number.

I've had them for a tenner plus vat delivered by Huws Grey, a local builders merchant. I ordered them this morning and they were delivered the same day.

Travis perkins are the only builders suppliers in my town,i wanted a bag of postcrete off them and when i was charged for it i was that gobsmacked at the price i paid it!
I work with a couple of lads who have accounts with them and they get on the managers case all the time for discount, ones a builder the other a joiner, they never pay full price but they have to ask for a deal every time, one of them told me this week they quoted him £33 for something, the final price he got it for was £9 .Sadly loyalty means nothing, only that firms can rip you off nowadays,i bet if you were on their case every tme things would be a lot cheaper.

Huws Grey have recently bought out our local, family run, builders supplies and bought up, refurbed and moved to the building next door, doubled in size and upset alot of the people working there. The new frontage looks like it should be on a big industrial estate not in a small town. So not always the good guys and not just local to you.

There's a CL Jones near you. They tend to be cheaper than Huws Gray.
